Food Labels Uncovered: Pasture Raised vs. Grass fed vs. Grass Finished?

Let’s play a game of “WOULD YOU RATHER” … food label 🥩-edition 🧩 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Would you rather buy… 🌿Naturally Raised, Grass-Fed beef for $10/lb OR 🐂Standard Walmart beef for $6/lb ?

What if you found out the only real difference between these items was the price? 🧐 And here you were… spendin’ extra 💸 for a dang label.

DON’T BE FOOLED! ⚠️ There’s SO many bogus label claims, stop wasting 💰 on these! Peep the diagram for the actual meaning behind several of these labels.

Reality —> large corporations within the food industry do not care about our health, they care about getting what’s in our pockets.

It is becoming tougher & tougher to know which of these labels we can actually trust, especially when a number of them are “self-made”, meaning any food manufacturer can use the label since there’s no clear, legal definition.

Even if a food label is legally defined, that does not mean it’s verified (or regularly checked to see if the manufacturer is following the claim)…. ⠀⠀⠀ When it comes to beef, a large portion of the “grass fed” 🌱 beef in stores is not truly grass finished & an even larger portion of “grass fed” beef comes from overseas, despite label claims.

Here’s some tips to navigate the confusion: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚠️ When there is “No independent 3rd party verification”, the claim is as reliable as the company making it. Independent, 3rd party verification is the best way to guarantee the label is accurate. Examples of this include organizations such as Animal Welfare Approved, Certified Organic, American Grass-fed Association, & Certified Grass-fed by A Greener World. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚠️ However, just because the claim is not backed by 3rd party verification does not necessarily make it empty, but it does make it questionable. We just encourage you to be wary of overpriced products if there’s no way to guarantee they’re worth that much of your paycheck. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⚠️ Some smaller farmers do not have the funds to certify their claims. That does NOT mean you cannot trust their practices - get to KNOW your farmer & ask questions about their farming - they’re usually very proud to share 🙏🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
