I've been trying to eat more animal based fats like suet and tallow, but for some reason they feel heavy on my body and almost bloat me.
I didn't feel like this from plant oils like avocado or olive or even butters like ghee.
In your experience, have you noticed that you or folks you talk to feel different after eating meals with tallow/suet vs. oils like avocado or olive oil?
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.
How long have you been incorporating the suet/tallow? Also, how much of this has been rendered versus raw? We have not experienced this. A little goes a long way with rendered fats, and use the raw fats as a leverage if you are in need of consuming more fats (say, to gain weight or maintain weight). I’d recommend trying ‘iberico pork fat’ then - it’s higher in oleic acid, which you’ll find a similar taste and experience to olive oil. White oak pastures sells this 🙂 code ‘strongsistas’ IF you do check it out. Otherwise, you really don’t have to eat a bunch of these fats if you’re eating fattier cuts!
Hey, it's funny you say that. Because I order from White Oak and I got the Iberico bacon and saved that fat, and that fat is awesome and feels great for me.
I just starting eating suet and tried to eat it lightly warmed and I also melted it all the way down (like tallow) and both didn't feel great. But, I might try what you said and just buy the Iberico fat
To add to the above comment (by Searmst2), if you are looking to lose weight, keep in mind that if you eat enough fat to fuel you and your energy needs for the day .. you won't burn your stored fat (like that doughnut from 10 years ago 😉). There is a fine balance that needs to be achieved (and it's different for everyone) where you eat enough calories (macros) to keep your metabolism up, but low enough that you will burn your stored fats.
